One week of withdrawal? or: Rausina 12 and 13 / Eine Woche Entzug? oder: Rausina 12 und 13

Phew, what a weekend! Hardly any sleep, because we were never in bed before 0100 (rather always around 0400…). And why? Because we made HISTORY, at least in our Rausina campaign.

It all started quite harmlessly with a space battle (we wanted to get into BFG again), in which the goal was to escape the pursuit by the battleship Immortal with Captain Cato, the liberated Blood Angels and the Eldar “geisel” in a small, specially made Thunderhawk and make it to the Blood Drop.
An Eldar ship was also there, and distracted the Immortal so that the Gunship managed to reach the Blood Drop despite heavy fire. Then Grand Inquisitor Lucius emerged from the warp in the space above Rausina, and put his foot down: the Immortal abandoned the Blood Drop, and the Thunderhawk was taken from there aboard the Swordmaiden, Lucius’ StrikeCruiser. The Eldar retreated heavily damaged, having taken the brunt of the Immortal’s fire.

Just at that moment, a Chaos battleship and three small escort ships now appeared in their midst. (Firstly, it was so much fun, and secondly, it wasn’t late enough, was it?) Again Hanny played the Immortals, twa the Blood Drops and the Inquisitorial StrikeCruiser, and I played the Chaos Ships. With the support of the Immortal, the StrikeCruiser, on which the attacks of the Chaos ships were mainly concentrated after the destruction of the Blooddrops, managed to retreat badly damaged from the battle and limp to the nearest naval base, after the battered Eldar ship had also remained vigilant near it for a short time, while the Immortal pushed the only remaining Chaos battleship (the small escort ships had all been wiped out) back into the warp.

That was Friday night.

On Saturday morning we got out of bed rather sleepy, and then (twa and I) had to clean out the flat, which we did only very reluctantly. In the evening we wanted to play a little BFG to relax, and what could be more obvious than to ask Hanny too? During the day we had already thought up a new scenario among the boxes:
The Sword Maiden has arrived in the Navy’s space dock and is being repaired there, while Grand Inquisitor Lucius is now getting a clear picture of the events on Rausina, and Captain Cato can clarify the question of what the Blood Angels were doing with the Eldar.
Just at that moment, the Chaos battleship that had followed the Sword Maiden and her “cargo” to this point appears, and it even has reinforcements with it. In the berths of the space dock and on anchorages in the surrounding area, there are of course other Empire ships, so that the Sword Maiden does not have to face the Chaos attack alone.
The goal of the Chaos ships is to carry out a successful boarding action on the space dock in order to seize the Eldar who have pursued them to this point, as they believe to be in their possession the sword in which one of their leaders is imprisoned. (see the corresponding blog entry)

So much for the initial situation. In the end, the Chaos ships had to shoot their way to the space dock after the Empire ships had finally all undocked and turned around, with almost all Empire ships falling victim to the attackers, and the space station being destroyed along the way. The Swordmaiden narrowly escaped into the warp in a desperate escape move, as a single, final Empire ship bravely held off the Chaos battleship, and was destroyed in the process.

End result: a Chaos fleet unexpectedly appeared and destroyed the Imperial space base near the Rausina system and much of the Imperial fleet in that subsector, however Grand Inquisitor Lucius escaped, and with him the Eldar and their escort, so while Chaos succeeded in striking a devastating blow against the Empire, they were unable to complete their actual mission. So far, both the Eldar and the Empire are unaware of what Chaos is after here.

I’m sure Hanny and twa will be writing detailed battle reports, while the next scenario for Friday is already being hatched in anticipation. Until then, however, abstinence is the order of the day, because during the week such a night game is simply unthinkable.
