We treated ourselves to it for Christmas and actually wanted to paint it for Christmas too: The modular game board from GW. Yesterday we started spontaneously.
First tip: You need a base that is almost as big as the assembled modules! So 6×4 feet. The MDF board we have underneath allows the modules to protrude 15 cm on each side, so it’s only 3×5. It does look quite wobbly, but we’ll see how well it really holds up in the first few games.
Second note: We decided against both the ash desert and the typical park meadow as a colour scheme. That would have been the standard for my bases, but ADS has a grey/white winter base for all its figures. As Hanny doesn’t have a base colour yet, he didn’t take part in the discussion. Now we’re planning to paint the modules granite grey with snow and green spots. In the end, each of us will have a piece of design from our standard bases. The grey I bought at Max Bahr is almost the same colour as the plastic of the modules, just a little lighter. We then applied the first two coats with a small roll of wallpaper and the whole thing already gives the landscape a nice depth effect and mutes the glossy baconiness of the plastic.
The third layer will be the green areas and the skull areas will be transformed into small lakes. I’ll buy some modelling water tomorrow.

Wir haben es uns zu Weihnachten gegönnt und wolten es eigentlich auch schon zu Weihnachten bemalen: Das modulare Spielbrett von GW. Gestern haben wir dann spontan angefangen.
Erster Hinweis: Ihr braucht eine Unterlage die fast so groß is wie die zusammengestzten Module! Also 6×4 Fuss. Unsere MDF Platte die wir darunterliegen haben laesst die Module 15 cm auf jeder Seite überstehen, ist also nur 3×5. Es wirkt doch recht wackelig, aber wir werden bei den ersten spielen sehen wie gut es wirklich hält.
Zweiter Hinweis: Als Bemalung haben wir uns sowohl gegen die Aschewüste, als auch gegen die typische Parkwiese entschieden. Das wäre zwar der Standard meiner Basen gewesen, aber ADS hat ja eine grau/weiß Winterbase bei allen ihren Figuren. Da Hanny noch gar keine Basenfarbe besitzt hat er dann gar nicht mitdiskutiert. Jetzt haben wir vor die Module eher Granitgrau mit Schneedeck und grünen Flecken zu bemalen. So hat am Ende jeder von uns beiden ein Stück Design seiner Standardbasen untergebracht. Das Grau was ichbei Max Bahr gekauft habe, hat fast die selbe Farbe wie das Plastik der Module, nur etwas heller. Die ersten beiden Schichten haben wir dann mit einer kleinen Tapetenrolle aufgetragen und das ganze verleicht der Landscaft schon jetzt einen netten Tiefeneffekt und dämpf die glänzende Speckigkeit des Plastiks.
Als dritte Schicht werden wir dann die grünen Flächen anlegen und die Totenkopfareale in kleine Seen verwandeln. Morgen kaufe ich dafür Modellbauwasser.
