So, here it is, finally finished – my Autarch. I remodelled him from a Magnificent Egos miniature because I liked the wings so much that I really wanted to have them.
I remodelled the left hand because I thought the fingers were too short, and I also gave him a new weapon. A few cabochons were added as additional details and, of course, the sword also had to be included so that the figure complied with the rules of the game. However, for aesthetic reasons, I decided not to put the sword in the figure’s hand, but to stick it in the snow instead.
This project progressed surprisingly quickly. Can I actually manage to paint a character figure in under a year? Yes, I managed that. In total, I probably spent about five to seven evenings working on the figure, which is really unusual for me.
How did I do it? I consistently primed, inked, brushed over and inked again. I only painted on the very few details afterwards with a fine brush.
But here’s the interesting thing: I had actually already finished the figure yesterday, but I didn’t like the colour scheme because it was so different from my other Swooping Hawks. As this is not a GW figure and the modelling style is slightly different, I wanted to at least match the colour scheme. So I took another foto:
…and then repainted the head and body and distributed the colours differently. Now he’s lighter overall, the helmet is darker and the hair is no longer grey, but white on a light blue base. In my opinion, this looks much better. The wings and coat remained unchanged, as I liked them the first time round. Although they look darker in the picture, they are not in reality, just as the hair is not as blue as in the photo.
And voilà! Here’s my first Autarch, equipped with the insignia of the Shrine of the Swooping Hawks (can you tell somehow?). He has hawk wings, an energy sword, a sunblaster (or laser blaster – it looks more like a sunblaster, doesn’t it?) and an optional banshee mask. And all that in just seven evenings. Who would have thought it?

So, da ist er, endlich fertig – mein Autarch. Ich habe ihn aus einer Magnificent Egos-Miniatur umgebaut, weil mir die Flügel so gut gefallen haben, dass ich sie unbedingt haben wollte.
Ich habe die linke Hand nachmodelliert, da mir die Finger zu kurz erschienen, und ihm außerdem eine neue Waffe verpasst. Ein paar Cabochons kamen noch als zusätzliche Details hinzu, und das Schwert musste natürlich auch dabei sein, damit die Figur den Spielregeln entspricht. Allerdings habe ich mich aus ästhetischen Gründen entschieden, das Schwert nicht in die Hand der Figur zu geben, sondern es stattdessen in den Schnee zu stecken.
Dieses Projekt ging überraschend schnell voran. Schaffe ich es tatsächlich, eine Charakterfigur in unter einem Jahr zu bemalen? Ja, das habe ich geschafft. Insgesamt habe ich wohl etwa fünf bis sieben Abende an der Figur gearbeitet, was für mich wirklich ungewöhnlich ist.
Wie habe ich das gemacht? Ich habe konsequent grundiert, getuscht, überbürstet und nochmals getuscht. Nur die allerwenigsten Details habe ich nachträglich mit einem feinen Pinsel aufgemalt.
Aber hier kommt das Interessante: Eigentlich hatte ich die Figur bereits gestern fertiggestellt, aber die Farbgebung gefiel mir nicht, da sie sich so stark von meinen anderen Swooping Hawks unterschied. Da es sich hierbei nicht um eine GW-Figur handelt und der Modellierstil leicht abweicht, wollte ich zumindest die Farbgebung angleichen. Also habe ich noch ein Foto gemacht:
…und dann den Kopf und den Körper erneut bemalt und die Farben anders verteilt. Jetzt ist er insgesamt heller, der Helm dunkler, und das Haar ist nicht mehr grau, sondern weiß auf Hellblaubasis. Das sieht meiner Meinung nach viel besser aus. Die Flügel und der Mantel blieben unverändert, da sie mir bereits beim ersten Anlauf gut gefielen. Obwohl sie auf dem Bild dunkler aussehen, sind sie es in Wirklichkeit nicht, genauso wie die Haare nicht so blau sind wie auf dem Foto.
Und voilà! Hier ist mein erster Autarch, ausgestattet mit den Insignien des Schreins der Swooping Hawks (kann man das irgendwie erkennen?). Er hat Falkenflügel, ein Energieschwert, einen Sonnenstrahler (oder Laserblaster – es sieht eher wie ein Sonnenstrahler aus, oder?) und optional eine Bansheemaske. Und das alles in nur sieben Abenden. Wer hätte das gedacht.
